Item Description
Only example known to Hake's- this elusive item was not even in the Paul Muchinsky collection. 7/8" complete w/Whitehead & Hoag back paper. The 1901 Pittsburgh Pirates ball club finished in first place in the National League with a final record of 90-49-1 under future National Baseball Hall of Fame manager/player, Fred Clarke. Although only in his first season with the Pirates, all-time great shortstop Honus Wagner led the National League in doubles, triples and batting average, taking home the first of his eight batting titles. On the mound, two future pitching greats, Jack Chesbro and Rube Waddell were just cutting their teeth on the Major League scene. Tiny pin prick above the "U" in "Pittsburg". Faint light gray dots between four and five o'clock and at 9 o'clock  confined mostly to the extreme outer edge. Otherwise only minor surface wear under magnification. Remains glossy, Fine. A historic baseball button rarity.
