Item Description
One of only two examples known to Hake's. 7/8" complete w/Whitehead & Hoag back paper. Attractive design w/flag reflecting championship years of 1919 to 1921. The Baltimore Orioles would win seven consecutive International League pennants (1919-25), and six of the championship teams are ranked in the top 20 of the 100 best Minor League teams of the 20th century. Owner Jack Dunn created a Minor League dynasty, locking up his best players for years during a time when the IL was exempt from the Major League draft. The man who had sold Babe Ruth to the Red Sox back in the summer of 1914 for a bargain price had learned his lesson, placing high price tags on players desired by big league clubs. Dunn and 11 of his players are in the International League Hall of Fame. By far the best and most accomplished ballplayer on the squad was Robert "Lefty" Grove, who would go on to Cooperstown selection in 1947 after concluding his career with a won-loss record of 300-141 along with a stellar career ERA of 3.06. Minor trace of surface wear seen under magnification. Glossy and Exc. A must have rarity for the Orioles collector.
