3.25x8.75x1" box with lid illustrations and text including "The Automaton Company/By G. Douglas Brewerton U.S.A./D. Van Nostrand, 192 Broadway, N.Y." Lid has two corner splits. Box overall remains solid. Box contains 9 printed cardboard pieces illustrating various company movements in the battlefield. Also included is 9x18" tri-fold instruction sheet and key for identifying various military ranks. Instructions state "Entered According To Act Of Congress In The Year 1863..." Instructions explain that this device will allow user to "Follow Out With Greater Ease That Routine Of Company, Platoon, Section And File Movements Which Necessarily Precedes The School Of The Battalion." Produced like games of the mid-19th century. Interesting and Fine.
