Item Description
10.25x13x2 deep box contains Funtime Playwear Superman Play Suit. ©1956 National Comics Publications Inc. Box notes "Girl Size 4" and has corner tip wear w/creases and small spot of staining from sticker at upper left corner. Underside of box has partially loose paper covering w/edge splits and heavy corner creasing at lower left.  Box is Fine overall. Playsuit consists of three pieces of cotton fabric w/thin vinyl belt w/metal buckle. Shirt has silk-screened "S" chest emblem and is complete w/all four original plastic buttons on back. Both shirt and skirt have size tags still attached. Cape has large silk-screened "Superman" name and full body image. Aside from small spot on chest emblem where silk-screening did not completely adhere, outfit is Exc. Comes w/original string tag w/washing instructions. This has some creases and is Fine. Comes w/coverless copy of Superman #110 comic book, which features ad for Superman/Supergirl playsuits. Comic shows obvious wear and just comes along. Rare and the only example we've offered in our 56 years. While Superman playsuits of the 1950s were big sellers, these girls sets did not sell well, resulting in their rarity today. What's even more interesting is that this predates Supergirl's appearance in the comics by two years.
