Item Description
Overall 16-3/8x21.5" artboard is comprised of three artboard sections conjoined on back w/white tape and features pen and ink original art for Jan. 24, 1988 Sunday page by John Cullen Murphy (1919-2004), known for his three decade run on the Prince Valiant comic strip, first assisting and eventually taking over from creator Hal Foster. Story deals w/Prince Valiant, his son Galan and Valiant's men being forced to build Viking longboats for tyrant, telling stories w/guards and explaining the process of "clipping" coins, or slowly removing small pieces of precious metals from the edges. Sunday page features six panels, w/Prince Valiant featured only in second panel while Galan appears in four panels. First panel has paste-over title stat w/some glue staining and bottom left has KFS copyright strip. Each artboard strip has sequence order, story number and date inked at right. Printer registration marks in margins, which show some scattered aging. Art remains clean and Exc. From the John Cullen Murphy Estate.
