Item Description
2.25" tinted real photo with curl naming maker Cruver, Chicago. Mirror has near 100% silvering but there is a single shallow .25" surface flake off extreme edge at 4 o'clock. Pictured is well-known early 1900s photo of Evelyn Nesbit here used as a "Good For" to promote "The Bungalow", likely a saloon or cafe, in Valparaiso, IN. Nesbit, born near Pittsburgh, lost her father around age ten and her mother struggled to find work first going to Philadelphia and then on to New York where painter James Carroll Beckwith discovered young Evelyn's beauty and introduced her to artists and illustrators resulting in her becoming the most sought after model in New York as well as a 1902 Broadway star in Flora Dora, the top stage hit. She was about 16 when she met famed architect Stanford White. Although 30 years her senior and married, they soon had a complex relationship until Evelyn discovered White's little white book. Enter Harry Thaw, railroad scion, who Evelyn first rejected but then married in 1905. Less than a year later, Thaw gunned down White at Madison Square Garden in front of hundreds of witnesses. An historic and iconic material culture artifact. Exc.
