Item Description
Each is a 1-1/8" litho with back text "Kellogg's Pep". Four green planes were released in 1943 following in 1945 with four brown planes which come both in a photographic style as well as an illustration style against hand drawn cloud backgrounds. Like the set of 36 insignia, the inks and gloss finish were required by the FDA to be softer and thus less toxic to children but this made the buttons very susceptible to wear. These 12 have great gloss with some scattered and minor paint melt marks as very typical. The four green planes are: Boeing B-29 Superfortress (Note- it is flying to the left, see next lot for first seen version flying to the right), Consolidated Vultee B-24 Liberator, Lockheed Lightning P-36 (small shallow dent), Republic P-47 Thunderbolt ( three short scratches). The brown planes, two of each, are Consolidated PB2Y-3 Coronado, Grumman F6F3 Hellcat (with shallow dent, but great paint), Martin B-26 Marauder, North American B-25 Mitchell. Set of 12 averages VF and these are superior glossy examples. See next lot for just discovered green button variety. A great visual documentation of America's World War II flying forces.
