Item Description
Complete set of 36, each a 13/16" dia. litho. 18 were issued one per cereal box in 1943 with 18 more in 1945 all  created by legendary "Premium King" Sam Gold. Gordon Gold, who joined his father just after WWII, related the FDA required inks and a glossy coating lower in hardness but less toxic in case kids chewed the buttons. The inks used were very susceptible to chipping and the gloss finish was a magnet for dust. As such, most examples today are Good to Fine. This set has six buttons with small wear that are Fine and 30 that grade VF to Exc. Overall, a much above average set, and all with nice gloss.
