Item Description
1" w/Irwin-Hodson back paper. World War II era button likely connected to Vanport housing project. Portland became one of the most racially segregated cities in the Northwest during the 1940s as African Americans migrated to work jobs in the shipyards. The influx created a housing shortage which was met with a hastily constructed project, Vanport. Button has cream background with only minor surface wear seen in reflected light. Exc. Rare.
