Item Description
1.5x2.75". The 1909-11 American Caramel E90-1 set consists of 120 cards. Each colorized card shows an artistic rendering of the athlete with his name, position and team denoted in a white border area at the bottom of each card. Several players exist in more than one pose or background color, adding to the difficulty in compiling a master set. Cards carry advertising backs. Chief Bender was a starting pitcher from 1903 to 1917, primarily w/Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics (though w/stints at the end of his career w/the Baltimore Terrapins of the short-lived Federal League, the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Chicago White Sox). He was later kept on the Athletics' payroll as a scout and occasional coach before his retirement in 1950. Bender was elected to the Baseball HOF in 1953.
