Item Description
7" long overall. Gresham was a prominent figure in Indiana, serving as a federal judge, as well as the Secretary of the Treasury under Chester Arthur and the Secretary of State under Grover Cleveland. He was a man of many partisan hats, beginning his political career as a Whig, before moving to the American (Know Nothing) Party during the 1850s. He landed in the Republican Party for the next three decades, ultimately making a bid for the Republican nomination in 1888, before crossing the aisle to the Democratic Party for the remainder of his life from 1892-1895. Ribbon has some faint scattered creasing, as well as some minor gold letter application loss on the text. Otherwise light even aging and moderate handling wear. VF.
