Item Description
Pair of typed letters, each signed in blue ink by composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim (1930-2021), who is regarded as one of the most important figures in 20th-Century musical theater and credited for reinventing the American musical. Some of his best-known works include West Side Story (1957), Gypsy (1959), A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum (1962), Follies (1971), A Little Night Music (1973), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street (1979), Merrily We Roll Along (1981), Sunday In The Park With George (1984) and Into The Woods (1987). 5.75x7-1/8" letter on Sondheim's personal letterhead is dated May 13, 1974 and mentions payment for Pinocchio record. Folded at center as mailed. Exc. 8.5x11" response letter to same recipient notes Sondheim's desire for the Knock On Wood album Robert Miller at Recollections record store of Roselle Park found for him, mentioning enclosed payment. Folded as mailed, letter has some scattered aging and dust soiling. VF overall. Both letters come w/original mailing envelopes. Comes w/JSA LOAs.
