Item Description
Lynette Alice "Squeaky" Fromme was a member of the Manson Family, a cult led by Charles Manson. Though not involved in the Tate-LaBianca murders for which the Manson family is best known, she attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford in 1975. For that crime, she was sentenced to life in prison. She was paroled from prison in 2009, after serving approximately 34 years of her sentence. Offered here is four-page letter, handwritten in black ink and dated June 9, 1987. In her letter, Fromme rambles about the environment, drugs, drug testing and the prison system. Of note, she mentions First Lady Nancy Reagan's Say "No To Drugs" campaign. Letter is signed "Lynette." Folded as mailed and comes w/hand-addressed envelope w/June 10, 1987 Alderson, WV postmark. Letter was written approx. six months before Fromme would escape from Federal Prison Camp Alderson in West Virginia in an attempt to meet Manson. She was captured two days later and incarcerated at the Federal Medical Center, Carswell, in Fort Worth, TX. Envelope has some scattered glue staining and is VF. Letter has lt. even aging and is o/w Exc. Comes w/JSA LOA.
