Item Description
12x15.5x1.5" deep box contains insert w/six perforated holders, each designed to have relief figure attached to it after being painted. Lid is marked "A Sabesco Product," ©1946 Fawcett Publications Inc. Box is evenly aged and shows handling w/creases and corner tip wear. Top right quarter of lid main panel has staining which is only really noticeable on underside of lid. Lid also has tape repair to 2" area w/tears at bottom right of main lid panel. Box bottom also has some corner staining corresponding to that seen on lid. Insert has slight inward warp w/some loose perforations around both Mary Marvel figures. Box is VG overall. Set was issued w/six 4" tall figures, including - Captain Marvel, his alter ego Billy Batson, Mary Marvel, her alter ego Mary Batson, Captain Marvel Jr. and his alter ego Freddy Freeman. Each has incised name on front of base and incised Fawcett copyright on undersides of bases. Set is complete w/brush, artist's palette of paint tabs and small tin water dish. While paint brush and paint tabs show some lt. wear, figures remain unused and Exc. to NM w/some scattered aging here and there. Captain Marvel figure is missing wire that held it in place, but all others remain affixed as issued. One of the rarest Captain Marvel items of the 1940s and one of just two boxed examples of this rare set we have offered in our 56 years. Harry Matetsky Collection & Shazam!
