Item Description
Stapled packet of four items from Independent News Co., Inc., a distributor of comic books during the Golden Age. Typed cover letter measures 6x9" and is dated July 13, 1942 and mentions All-Flash becoming a bi-monthly title beginning w/issue #6 as well as noting attached 7.5x10" clipped cover proof (blank back) for this issue, noting included "The Minute Man Answers The Call" four-page reprint of M.C. Gaines' wartime story that would be reprinted within the pages of All-Flash and "Several Other Superman-DC Publications." A copy of the Gaines' story is also included. Letter ends w/mention of "The Enclosed Buttons Are Sent To You With The Compliments Of 'The Flash' - The Faster Man Alive" though buttons (see previous lot) are not included here. Cover letter has hole from button w/ring rust at top. Last item in packet is copy of letter from the Treasury Department thanking Gaines for his wartime contributions. Some staple oxidation and creases as folded by staple, however papers o/w show just lt. aging/wear and are Fine to VF overall. Only time in our 56 years we have seen a copy of this letter, a must-have for collection containing the iconic Golden Age Flash button. Harry Matetsky Collection.
