Item Description
The 1887 N284 Buchner Gold Coin baseball card set was produced by D. Buchner & Company of New York and distributed with Gold Coin chewing tobacco. The front of the cards features a colorful drawing of a baseball scene which bears no correlation to the players on the card.  Printed on the bottom of the card is the player's name, position and team name. The backs of the N284 set include an advertising message from Gold Coin chewing tobacco.

William Aloysius "Blondie" Purcell was an American Major League Baseball player born in Paterson, New Jersey. He played for nine different major league teams from 1879 to 1890. Purcell played mainly as an outfielder, and he was also a pitcher in 79 games.
