Item Description
5.5x12x3.5" deep illustrated cardboard box contains high quality marionette by Hestwood Marionette Studio of Glendale, CA. Marionette was made in 1933 and was sold exclusively at Bullock's Wilshire Department Store in Los Angeles, CA. Box features "Mickey Mouse Marionettes" name on lid, along w/full body images of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Sides of box feature various illustrations of Mickey, Minnie and Pluto. Box has all over aging and shows obvious wear, w/moderate edge/corner tip wear and some scattered surface paper flaking at edges/corners. Box bottom has some scattered staining on one end panel and underside has large area of surface paper lifting. Box is Good/VG overall and one of only a few we have offered in our 57 years. 11" tall marionette has wood/composition body w/felt ears, velveteen pants w/four mother-of-pearl buttons, stuffed velveteen arms/hands. Long string tail is present. Wooden controller unit and strings have been removed, but figure is o/w complete and in exceptional condition w/o any restoration. Paper labels on underside of feet complete aside from tiny corner flake on one, but all Disney licensing text remains. Nails visible sticking out of sides of head, at shoulders and on front of feet as used to secure strings. Appearance remains totally bright and clean, composition parts remain glossy. Figure alone makes for a great display piece for a very rare Mickey Mouse item. Michael Lartigaut Collection.
