Item Description
14-7/8x20-1/8" Strathmore illustration board features mixed media original art for front cover of box for VHS release of The Adventures Of Young Indiana Jones: Oganga, The Giver And Taker Of Life. The Adventures Of Young Indiana Jones was a series of made-for-television films based on The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles TV show, both starring Sean Patrick Flanery in the title role. The eleventh film in The Adventures Of Young Indiana Jones, it was edited together from The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles episodes "German East Africa, December 1916" and "Congo, January 1917." Art was created by noted entertainment illustrator Mike Butkus, who provided art for many Young Indiana Jones home media releases. While Indiana Jones movie poster artist Drew Struzan provided art for The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Butkus was brought in as his style was rather similar to the detailed, yet stylized Struzan style Indiana Jones fans had come to expect, w/images of Flanery along w/co-stars Friedrich von Thun as Albert Schweitzer and Isolde Barthas Helene Schweitzer. Flanery is depicted in Belgian pith helmet and uniform, as the story saw Indy fighting alongside the Belgian army in East Africa under an assumed name during the Great War. Art also shows Indy leading charge of the Force Publique, the Congolese army serving under Belgian colonial rule. Art features beautiful use of color, w/artist's signature at bottom, just left of center. Exc. Of note, art is more extensive than seen on VHS box (an example is included in this lot), which cropped some amazing detail seen in the original art by Butkus. Paper overlay has "Adv. Of Young Ind. Jones" abbreviated title and bears artist's signature. Overlay is no longer attached at top and shows scattered wear.
