Item Description
Several varieties/versions of Superman premium pictures were issued over the years from 1942 to 1973. Offered here is the earliest version on stiff paper, issued in 1942 and measuring 7.5x10.5", which is larger than later issues (which were typically 5x7"). Front features choice Superman illustration w/simulated wood border w/facsimile "Best Wishes From Your Friend Superman" inscription. Reverse has advertising Action Comics #47, World's Finest Comics #5 and Superman #14. Later versions of this picture featured different, contemporary comic issues. Tiny corner bumps but NM overall as this was a file copy originally from the collection of Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel and comes w/COA. Infinitely more rare than later issues; our last example (without Siegel provenance) selling for $1,052 in 2016. Comers w/1948 Superman premium picture; 5x7" on stiff paper, further illustrating the differences between the 1942 variety. Comics featured on back include - World's Finest Comics #33, Superman #53 (w/slight cover alteration) and Action Comics #115. Some lt. corner tip wear but still Exc. Harry Matetsky Collection.
