15-3/8x18.25" mat contains large photo that has been professionally matted to 10.75x13.75" and shows noted Yankees broadcaster Mel Allen (1913-1996) standing behind Babe Ruth during Babe Ruth Day at Yankee Stadium April 27, 1947. Allen has boldly signed across his image in blue felt tip pen, adding "Voice Of The Yankees" nickname. Exc. and ready for framing. Comes w/JSA COA.
Allen is best known for his long tenure as the primary play-by-play announcer for the New York Yankees. During the the 1940s through the 1960s, Allen was arguably the most prominent member of the sportscaster profession, his voice familiar to millions. Years after his death, he is still promoted as having been "The Voice Of The Yankees." Allen is also known for his 1970s-1990s This Week In Baseball weekly recap show broadcast on network TV presenting highlights of the top plays from MLB games during the previous week. Allen also appears in the National Baseball HOF in the broadcaster's wing.
