Item Description
1". No maker but w/union bug on curl back stamp. This single day issue button depicting the Flying Dutchman, Honus Wagner,  was only available at the May 4, 1933 ballgame which took place at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, NY between the hometown Brooklyn Dodgers and Wagner's Pittsburgh Pirates. Touted as "Honus Wagner Day", all fans in attendance paid their respects to the National League's greatest living ballplayer up to that point in time. 1933 was Honus' inaugural season as a Pirates coach, a position that he would hold for the next 18 years until he finally retired in 1951 at the ripe old age of 77. Tiny dark dot on his neck but front remains bright and glossy. Trace of age to metal back. Still displays Exc.

Wagner was an inaugural member of the first ever National Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 1936, joining Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson and Christy Mathewson. Honus finished his career with a .328 batting average along with 101 home runs, 1,732 RBI's, 1,739 runs scored and 723 stolen bases. Wagner led the National League in batting average eight times and his Pittsburgh ball club won the 1909 World Championship, besting Ty Cobb's Detroit Tigers in seven epic contests.
