Item Description
Boxing legend Joe Louis (1914-1981) volunteered for military duty during World War II, taking part in several charity boxing matches which also helped boost troop morale. Placed in the Army's Special Services Division rather than being deployed to combat, Louis went on a celebrity tour w/other notables including fellow boxer Sugar Ray Robinson. Louis was also the focus of a media recruitment campaign encouraging African-American men to enlist. Offered here is a vintage 5x7" matte finish photo showing Louis in uniform posing w/two children and man in military uniform. Photo has been inscribed in blue ink "To Karen Roosch - From Joe Louis - 8/20/42." Back of photo has black felt tip pen noting name of young girl photo was inscribed to as well as "Joe Louis Manager" and noting photo was take at Ft. Riley, Kansas. Inscription/signature is a bit lt. but still legible. VF overall. Unique Joe Louis signed item. Comes with JSA LOA.
