Item Description
2.25" w/youthful portrait of the South Dakota politician then campaigning for his second term representing the first district. His campaign prevailed defeating two time Gov. Joe Foss. These buttons were produced as a fundraising device but the campaign found that people were not interested in spending $1.00 for a button in an era where they were typically distributed for free. Advisor to McGovern George Cunningham recalled to the APIC Keynoter (Vol. 82, No. 4, Pg. 20) that McGovern designed this button himself and that most of the buttons "Were Tossed Out After The Campaign Because We Just Didn't Get Much Out Of Them." Bright and clean w/only minor wear. NM. A choice example of one of the rarest and most desirable McGovern pins.
