Item Description
Created by DC Comics Editorial Director Irwin Donenfeld and debuting in Feb. 1966, the "Go-Go Checks" that decorated the top of DC comic books of the period were designed as an eye-catching tactic to stand out in the vertical racks comics were commonly displayed in, w/only the top of the comic being visible. Promoted within the comics, the Go-Go Checks checkerboard design was published until Aug. 1967. Offered here is 3x24" tin litho strip sign that was attached to top of comic book rack, featuring "For The Very Best In Comics Reading!" w/"Superman - DC - National Comics" logo at left and Comics Code Authority stamp image at right. Top as well as left/right sides are decorated w/Go-Go Checks. Scattered wear in the form of small bends/dents and some hairline scratches. Fine overall. Rare due to limited period of time the Go-Go Checks were used by DC. First we've offered. Great display piece. Danny Fuchs Collection.
