Item Description
3x4". Cut signature has section of correspondence on verso. Text on reverse refers to an "E. Randolph", possibly Ellen W. Randolph, the grand-daughter of Thomas Jefferson, as Dolley and Ellen were known to correspond. Dolley Madison was the First Lady from 1809 until 1817. She famously saved Gilbert Stuart's iconic painting of George Washington during the British burning of Washington in 1814 as she fled the White House during the War of 1812.
