From same series as previous lots. Honus Wagner, nicknamed "The Flying Dutchman" for his superb base stealing ability, began his illustrious career w/the Louisville Colonels in 1897 before shifting over to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1900 along w/a number of his Louisville teammates. Honus would star for the Pirates for the next 18 seasons before ending his playing career in 1917. He would lead the NL in batting average an amazing eight times and won his sole World Series championship in 1909 besting the Detroit Tigers and his contemporary rival, Ty Cobb, 4 games to 3. Wagner received the ultimate honor by becoming an inaugural member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame class in 1936. Back top edge has pair of 1" tape strips as this was once framed. Also has four .5" margin tears w/tape repairs on back. A pair of vertical crease lines run on either side of his image but much of this blends. Image remains bold and sharp. Still has great eye appeal. PSA census indicates that only 14 examples of this supplement have ever been graded by PSA. One of the most desirable in the Sporting News set. This is fresh to the market, as are the following eight lots.
