Item Description
2.5x3". This set of bw cards was produced by the Swell Gum Co. of Philadelphia and portrays memorable events in baseball history. Each features a baseball theme border and event title on card front. Back of cards describe the event in detail. Jackie Robinson was not only an iconic figure in baseball history but also one of the most important people in America during the 20th century. Making his MLB debut on April 15, 1947, Jackie paved the way for African Americans to play baseball in the Major Leagues following prior segregation whereby black ballplayers were only allowed to compete against each other within the various incarnations of the Negro Leagues since the late 1800s. Robinson withstood tremendous adversity on his way to a stellar 10 year Major League career w/the Brooklyn Dodgers and culminating w/his induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962. Front has staining at top two corners and bottom center. Image not impacted and remains bold and distinct. Back of card is clean. A key card in the set.
