Item Description
Both are 7/8" litho without any maker's name. In the early 1940s Superman joined the boy's clothing merchandising franchised character named Tim. During the rest of the 1940s, the pair shared a monthly club magazine, membership cards and member buttons and patches. On the back of the typical club button, in dark blue on gray, are the words "Member In Good Standing" within a circle. This example is glossy and Exc. Somehow, the second button escaped the reverse printing step. The reverse has no text and the metal is non-reflective silver color rather than gray. This button has slight paint wear but is Fine. There is a repro that was issued c. 1990 with no back text, but the repro does not have a thin, short white line at the back of Superman's neck extending 1/8" on to his cape. From the reverse, the repro has a shiny silver reflective back (not non-reflective silver color) and the button's side edge curl is much wider than the curls from 1942. This variety with no back text is the only one known to us and possibly unique.
