Item Description
16.75x23.75" illustration board contains 9 panel strip published May 6, 1973. Pen and ink art by John Dirks, the son of Katzenjammer Kids creator Rudolph Dirks. Rudolph Dirks' departure from William Randolph Hearst's New York Journal newspaper in 1912 first gave rise to a "Hans And Fritz" strip, which was later re-named "The Captain And The Kids" due to anti-German sentiment during World War I. This strip used the same characters from "The Katzenjammer Kids," which continued under another artist. This strip features Hans and Fritz exploring a cave. John Dirks' signature in first and second to last panel. Title and copyright paste-overs remain, though "Next" paste-over is missing. O/w clean and Exc. See following item.
