Item Description
Offered here is the only example that we have ever seen of this historic pair of teammates interacting prior to a 1945 Negro American League baseball game. Only a handful of Negro League photos exist picturing Jackie Robinson and the same can be said for his teammate here, Satchel Paige. With this photo you are getting both legends together, shown full figure on a ball field. 8x10" glossy w/bold, sharp and distinct image. Photo exhibits only minor handling wear, ink stamp on blank reverse. A crisp and clean photo. Jackie Robinson was a cultural icon, becoming the first African American baseball player of the 20th century to join the Major Leagues, making his debut on April 15, 1947. Satchel Paige would join him in the majors one year later, starring for the Cleveland Indians during the 1948 pennant drive. They were inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962 and 1971 respectively. Richard Merkin Collection.
