Item Description
Window box contains Autobot Commander Optimus Prime. This is version released in Mexico by Plásticos IGA. The main difference in packaging is the Spanish text as well as the absence of the tech spec chart on back of box, which has been replaced w/Spanish language character biography and Plásticos IGA logo. This company has a somewhat notorious reputation when it comes to quality control, w/many of their Optimus Prime toys featuring red paint on the die-cast cab that does not match the plastic portions (paint is just a shade darker than plastic on this example) and sometimes lack factory stickers. A number of Plásticos IGA Transformers also utilized yellow paint for the eyes that was found to contain lead. Upon this discovery, remaining stock had the eyes sloppily hand-painted over w/a thick coat of red paint. Intact tape seal at left and dried/loosened tape seal at right, but right corner edge does not exhibit any color breaks, as graded by AFA. AFA sub-grades are as follows - B80 W85 F85. Among the most desirable Series 1 Transformers toys, this Mexican version is much scarcer than Hasbro's American release. Mark Warner (UK) Collection.
