Item Description
Produced in conjunction w/the 1926-27 Cuban League winter season, a total of 37 baseball player cards were included as part of a 100 athlete series which also featured soccer players and boxers. Cards are printed on thin card stock and measure 1.5x2-3/8". As is the case w/many of the Cuban card sets of the era, an album was issued to house these cards in, thus, resulting in the majority of surviving examples being found in lesser condition due to album removal. Oms was one of the biggest stars of the 1920s and 1930s New York Cuban Stars Negro League ball club, teaming with Martin Dihigo to form one of the greatest one-two punches in Cuban baseball history. Although not currently enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Alejandro is on everyone's short list of remaining Negro League greats for consideration in upcoming elections. PSA 1 grade is primarily based on the condition of the card back. Front remains bright and glossy w/sharp image and eye appeal certainly exceeds the PSA assessment. PSA pop report indicates that only one other example has been graded at this level w/only one graded higher. Richard Merkin Collection.
