Item Description
10x22.5" screen printed on sturdy cardboard w/hand applied image of a bewildered Nancy Reagan. Likely intended for display at the venue and almost certainly unique. Promoting a concert featuring "From WA. DC! Scream With Sociological Hazard, Melvins, Skank Puppies, False Liberty Rock Theatre" on May 25, 1985 in Seattle, WA. Corner wear and light age toning at edges. Otherwise only four tape pulls on verso. VF. An amazing survivor. Headliners DC hardcore punks Scream, a few years before a 17 year old Dave Grohl would join them, were touring in support of This Side Up released in May of 1985. A very early Melvins piece, the future grunge mainstays had yet to release any recordings w/only a demo tape circulating in extremely limited numbers among friends. 1985 saw the creation of C/Z Records intended to document the music being produced in the Northwest, the label would release the highly influential Deep Six compilation in 1986 that featured four Melvins' songs and the band would put out their first LP Gluey Porch Treatments in 1987. But here they are in the early days forging their way ahead. Melvins were major influences on Kurt Cobain and Chris Novoselic of Nirvana who later helped the band secure a major label deal on Atlantic Records. Cobain is listed as a producer on their 1993 major label debut Houdini and played guitar on track 8 Sky Pup but leader Buzz Osborne later noted that Cobain was "In no shape to produce anything."
