Item Description
11.25x17.25" paper poster. Promoting a concert at Kaleidoscope in Louisville, KY on July 30, 1968. Most known for "In a Gadda Da Vida", which was released on their sophomore album by the same name a month before this show. The band was paid $700 to play the venue, a far cry from their hometown of San Diego. The building had an extensive history before becoming the psychedelic venue - founded in 1888 as the Louisville Athletic Club and later incarnations include a school, a dairy, an oil company, and finally a as The Louisville Art Club, in 1958 founded by the Society for the Arts in Louisville, enabling it to serve liquor and begin to offer jazz and other live performances. It became Kaleidoscope in 1968 and famously burned down in 1969, though in its short lifespan boasted acts like Steppenwolf, The Allman Brothers, and Blue Cheer. Faint handling wear, particularly at the left margin, aging upper right corner, scattered creasing upper left. Exc.
