Item Description
Tall, thin countertop display case is glass fronted o/w wood covered in flat paint and glossy enamel paint as made. Size is 3.5" deep by 12" wide by 13.5" tall. Wooden areas around all four edges of the glass center have noticeable missing paint although vast majority of paint remains. Inside is wooden display board covered in red flocking w/places to position pocket watches priced "From $1.00" and wristwatches "From $2.39." Case interior is accessible by sliding one reverse tab on the back which allows the display board to be removed. The wooden case back has glued to it a very brown but totally legible "Price List Ingersoll Watches And Clocks August 1, 1938." Piece is 5x8.5". Three Mickey watches are specified: "Standard" at $3.25, "De Luxe" at $3.95 and "Lapel" at $1.50. There are prices for 21 other Ingersoll wrist or pocket watches or alarm clocks or Kelton watches. The case overall is Fine and displays nicely. With it comes a 7.25x8.25" piece of company letterhead dated April 1939 informing an Iowa resident that enclosed is the "only available information which we have regarding our line of watches and clocks." The letter apparently refers to the item included in this lot which is a catalogue folder titled "Ingersoll And Kelton Watches And Alarm Clocks." This is 5.5x8.5" and it opens in three folds to 8.5x16.5". The illustrations on this folder exactly or closely match the list of names on the price list on the display case back. The Mickey Mouse lapel watch is pictured as are the round standard wristwatch and the rectangular "De Luxe Wrist." In addition, there are about 22 other pocket and wristwatches pictured, some in lovely art deco cases plus some alarm clocks. Letter and catalogue both have a full length fold line as mailed o/w Mint. Case is certainly ideal for displaying character watches of the period and the board in the display case would hold three pocket watches and five wristwatches. Rare.
