Item Description
There is one well-known, but rarely seen, early 1900 advertising button with this "Colt" logo (and it's in color). We last sold one (of two known to us) in our Sept. 2008 auction for $2,340. On the button, the "Colt" logo is oval and below the horse's front legs. We believe this card case, all ivory simulated celluloid (except for two brass hinge rivets) is earlier than the pin-back. We estimate this is c. 1900. It measures 2-5/8x3.5" and 11/16" thick. There is a notch on the bottom tray edge and this allows easy access to swing up the lid revealing an open card compartment with a cello center strip to keep the cards in position until the deck is slid out the bottom open end. The only defect is the bottom two corners of the lid have a hairline vertical split, each about .5"where the side skirts meet the front side panel. The "Colt" logo is incised into the cello surface with the coloring in black. There is no other text. VF. Rare.
