Item Description
11.25x20.25x1-1/8" deep box has superb lid art w/Betty Boop in movie theater watching one of her cartoons. © Fleischer Studios, c. 1935. Lid has large facsimile Max Fleischer signature and "With Materials To Make And Color Your Own Movies" text. Contents include 9x12" softcover 32-page illustrated guide subtitled "How To Make Movie Cartoons" w/image of Betty as animator working on drawing showing her w/Koko The Clown and Bimbo. Back cover shows all three characters riding cartoon centipede. Pages include step-by-step instructions on drawing all three main characters as well as Betty Boop's cartoon friends. Three pages at end are designed to be cut out for use as a flip book w/storyline involving Betty, Koko and Bimbo. Set comes w/8x11" Betty Boop drawing pad w/stiff paper covers featuring same Betty image on front/back. Box insert holds bottle of waterproof cartoon ink, drawing pen, tacks to mount drawings on board and ruler. Set appears complete. Lessons book has ink stain on several pages near the bottom though not affecting any art. "Koko Circus Stunts" and "Bimbo Play" pages have tiny blue watercolor on two images. Covers are clean and bright. Front cover of drawing pad has come loose and a few pages are neatly used (including two pencil/ink Betty Boop drawings). Aside from these pages and used drawing pen, contents are Exc. Box shows just lt. wear and is Exc. overall. This boxed set is among the rarest Betty Boop items and the only example we have offered in our 58 years (we sold this very same set in 2012 for $1,518 and have not seen another since). Wonderful design and superb graphics throughout. A must-have for any Betty Boop or animation-related collector. Additional photos online.
