Item Description
Each is 15/16" cello with curl naming maker Parisian of Chicago. All but six carry © 1935. Movie theater sponsored Popeye cartoon clubs gave Mickey Mouse a run for his money in the mid-1930s as this amazing collection of 48 different theater name imprints attests. In row 6, these have some fade and in row 7 three have stain and one a crack. The last eight deserve a special call out. Seven due to rarity and the last because it advertises the famous department store "Penney's". The special feature of the other seven in order: 1) no sponsor imprint, 2) red and a 1929 ©, 3&4) both © 1929 and both carry store name imprints, 5) unique to us, Popeye walking right, no sponsor, no date but has ©King Features Syndicate, 6) also 1929 for Spokane Press but 5 cello cracks, 7) 1" size, Australian made for "Paramount's Popeye The Sailor Club Member" but with one long crack at left and across bottom. Vast majority Exc. to NM. An incredible collection, decades in the making, and unique.
