Item Description
The first five buttons all depict the Maine and were issued shortly after it exploded in Havana Harbor Feb. 15, 1898. Each has a W&H back paper with one of the 1.25" buttons (flags below) having a thin paper paste over hand dated March 7, 1898". Two of five have famous slogan "Remember The Maine". The other three are from a series .75" dia. litho tin, each with two .25" metal prongs on reverse to facilitate wearing. These read "Remember The Maine", U.S. Cruiser New York, and "Cuba Libre". First and last have a couple tiny paint chips. All are rare. VF to Exc.
