Item Description
13.25x16" bread wrapper, consisting of waxed paper at left/right w/fragile central cellophane section, bearing three repeated full body images of Superman w/"Normand's Natural B1 Superman Bread" text, "Superman" name in same style as seen on his comic books. Side sections of wrapper also feature six small repeated Superman portraits. This bread was produced by Normand Brothers, Inc, of Manchester, NH, a regional bakery. The desirable 1941 Superman bread cards (see following lot) were issued in loaves packaged in wrappers like that offered here. And just like the Superman bread cards, Superman bread was made by a variety of bakeries. Top/bottom edges are gummed as produced and wrapper is evenly aged. Some scattered handling wear w/some handling creases and small tears (largest is .5") along left margin. Fine overall. The only other example known to us (shown in Harry Matetsky's book The Adventures Of Superman Collecting) features a different issuer - Saylor's, making this an extremely rare Superman item. Danny Fuchs Collection.
