Item Description
1.5" w/St. Louis Button Co. Mfrs. back paper. Only light surface wear. Exc. This button, along with a Nixon counterpart, were distributed at the Chicago Marine Show on Navy Pier in 1960. Glass Marine Industries of Humboldt, IA had their glass craft boats on display and used the buttons as both advertising for their watercrafts and a straw poll of the 1960 Presidential campaign by boating enthusiasts. Reporting from the era indicates that Nixon was the overwhelming winner with "requests for buttons running about 2 to 1 for Nixon" prior to the first debate and then "running about 4 to 1 for Nixon" after. This tracks with our experience having encountered less than 10 f the Nixon's and only four of the Kennedy's making this an exceptional opportunity to acquire an important crossover advertising presidential campaign button. John Hillhouse Collection.
