Item Description
Lot of 58. Each is 1.5x2-3/8". Presented here is a golden opportunity to pick up a large group of 1920s era boxing greats from the exceedingly rare 1926-27 Aguilitas Cuban tobacco card set. With a grand total of 900 cards produced, this issue was a massive undertaking for the day and included not only athletes from baseball, boxing and soccer but also hundreds of movie stars and other prominent celebrities from around the world. Cards were inserted into packs of Aguilitas cigarettes and were printed in black and white on glossy stock. On front is a large square portrait or action pose with "Boxeo" and the fighter's name printed below. Like most Latin American card issues, these cards were issued with an accompanying album, thus accounting for the all too common back damage that often plagues the condition of these rarities. Card fronts typically present much nicer than the technical grade, oftentimes displaying an EX appearance. Average condition of these cards varies from Poor to VG-EX with most being in the Fair/Good range. Lot sold as is. Richard Merkin Collection.
