Item Description
1-3/8x1.75" embossed brass frame holds tintype with extremely clear portrait. Extreme lower left corner has pair of tiny 1/16" rub dots that may have had a little color applied at one point but image displays clearly with no scratching or crazing. Complete with a brass ring attached along the top edge. The paper on the reverse reads "Through Baltimore," a reference to his early military action in the Civil War and "Maj. Gen. Benj. F. Butler, Of Massachusetts." While this is a Civil War patriotic item rather than a campaign item, a great large tintype image to represent this 1882 Massachusetts governor who was also the presidential nominee of the Greenback and Anti-Monopoly parties in 1884. VF and first we recall seeing in this series for him.
