Harmon Killebrew Jr., nicknamed "The Killer" and "Hammerin' Harmon," was an MLB first baseman, third baseman, and left fielder. He was a prolific power hitter who spent most of his 22-year career in MLB w/the Minnesota Twins. At the time of his retirement, Killebrew had the fifth most home runs in major league history. He was second only to Babe Ruth in American League (AL) Home Runs, and was the AL career leader in home runs by a right-handed batter. Killebrew was inducted into the National Baseball HOF in 1984.
Willie McCovey, nicknamed "Stretch," "Mac" and "Willie Mac," played in MLB as a first baseman 1959-1980, most notably as a member of the San Francisco Giants, for whom he played for 19 seasons. McCovey also played for the San Diego Padres and Oakland Athletics in the latter part of his MLB career. A fearsome left-handed power hitter, at the time of his retirement in 1980, McCovey ranked second only to Babe Ruth in career home runs among left-handed batters, and seventh overall. As of 2022, he ranks 20th overall on baseball's all-time home run list, tied w/Ted Williams and Frank Thomas. He was a six-time All-Star, three-time home run champion Rookie Of the Year in 1959 and an MVP in 1969. McCovey was inducted into the National Baseball HOF in 1986.
