Item Description
Lot of four pieces. 4x9.5" envelope with Disney return address of - 2719 Hyperion Hollywood and postmark of Jan. 22, 1936. Aged and top edge has wear as opened with about half of the flap on back missing. VG. The letter, also dated Jan. 22, 1936, is on studio letterhead with design matching the envelope and includes Mickey image and text "Walt Disney Productions Limited/Mickey Mouse Sound Cartoons." Letter is to James Van Dyne Lundy of Providence, RI. Letter notes the enclosure of "Application Blank, Protection Release And Mimeographed Paper With Respect To Young Artists Who Are Selected For Our Try-Out Training Course." Letter also states that after review of samples a determination would be made regarding the qualifying for further schooling. Signed in ink by Delores Voght, secretary to Walt Disney. Lightly aged with some handling wear but remains clean and VF. The two-part mimeographed paper is 8.5x14" with incredibly detailed information regarding working for the Disney studio. It notes that the application for the employment was received but "It Is Impossible For Us To Give You A Position As An Apprentice Animator On The Strength Of Your Samples Alone." Thus the try-out course is outlined noting requirements that are to be met. Text continues "Salaries Will Be Low During The First Stages Of Your Employment. However, Experienced Master Animators Receive Salaries That Are Well Up In The Four-Figure Category, Monthly." Very interesting insight in the artist application process. Both sheets have light wear/aging. Fine.
