Item Description
A mere .75" tall. In finely detailed raised relief is shield featuring stars crossed by a ribbon reading "Union." Accents of dark blue and red along with vertical engraved lines representing flag stripes. Entire shield design is surrounded by a frame with very tiny bead decoration. Reverse of this shell piece is convex with a vertical stickpin anchored in a "T" shape hinge at the top. From 1861-1865. In the north, the 1860s version of today's flag lapel pin. Superior example.
