Auction 193 - Part I
Item numbers 1 though 799 in auction 193
Item Description
In our previous auction, we offered another in this series showing Ben Butler. That was one of the few to survive with a small brass ring still affixed at the top. As is more typical, that ring is missing from this piece but visually its former presence is barely detectable. In reflected light, there is extensive crazing all over the emulsion but if the piece is then angled just a shade differently, all these craze lines totally disappear and the piece displays brightly and cleanly with a wonderful contrast of the emulsion tones. There are six small hand-colored buttons on his uniform and in certain light just a touch of accent color or perhaps just subtle shading on the right side of his face. Pink paper reverse carries his name and the name of the maker "Abbott & Co., 143 Nassau St., N.Y." Displays Mint.
