Item Description
This title has an incredible amount of historical significance for Marvel fans. Prior to this issue, the title had housed Timely’s very first super-team, The All Winners Squad. Comprised of Captain America, The Human Torch, and the Sub-Mariner, as well as their sidekicks and two other lesser heroes, they were the only super-team of the Golden Age that didn’t appear in a book published by DC. They appeared in issues #19 and #21 (there was no #20). After that they did not appear again until the Silver Age. The three main heroes of the Squad do appear on this cover. They also appear inside the book, but not as a team. The cover features one of the earliest creations by the man who would go on to be the architect of Marvel’s Silver Age, Stan Lee. He created the Blonde Phantom with artist Syd Shores. She first appeared in All Select #11. With the next issue, #12, she took over the title. In addition, she started appearing as a back up feature in other Timely books of the time. With the comics market moving towards crime and romance at the end of the forties, she and every other hero featured on this cover would disappear over the next two years. The title of this book changed to All Western Winners with the very next issue. The pages are cream to off-white. The book is CGC -certified VF+ 8.5. It is tied with three other copies as the highest graded copy they have seen.
