Item Description
This book has a wealth of Golden Age history. It is one of the earliest attempts to publish a regular, monthly comic. Published by Globe Syndicate, this book is listed as “scarce” by the 34th Edition of the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide. While the scarcity of the book is definitely part of its appeal, the real reason collector’s are always on the lookout for good copies of this title is because of the presence of four pages of early Basil Wolverton work. He was almost thirty when he entered the comic field, but he certainly made a lasting impression. The four pages include two pages of Wolverton’s much loved creation, Spacehawk and the other two pages are a humor strip he did called Disk Eyes. (Wolverton spent time in Vaudeville). This feature was done under the pen name Dennis Langdon. The book also features Van Bragger by Bob Kane and the second published comic book work by Jack Cole titled Pewee Throttle. Will Eisner does a story featuring Jack Hinton and other features include Beau Gus and Ken Craig and the Lords of Crillon. The title lasted three issues and was canceled the same year it saw publication. The pages are cream to off-white. The book is CGC-certified VF 8.0. The CGC Census lists this as the third highest graded copy they have seen.
