Item Description
Few publishers worked the war angle with such ferocity as Hillman Periodicals. More times than not, their covers clearly reminded the reader who the enemies of America were; that's one of the reasons that collectors value the company’s war covers. This one actually starts the story on the front cover to instantly grab the reader, perfectly capturing the basic themes of a war-time comic. The villain is not only verbally identified as being from Germany, but the last panel shows a small swastika. Airboy had many of the classic war covers. By using the sequential panel format of comics on the cover itself rather than just the interior, this issue boldly celebrates the art form of comics itself. What is striking about Airboy is that he always appears so diminutive. His small stature makes it easy for young kids to identify with him. They would like to be over there fighting, if only someone would let them. The book features interior art by Fuje and Giunta. The pages are cream to off-white. CGC has graded the book VF/NM 9.0. There are only two copies with a higher grade. The book is also acknowledged as part of the Rockford pedigree.
